On November 18, Wang Ning, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, met in Kunming with Yukio Hatoyama, former Prime Minister of Japan and Chairman of the Japan Institute of East Asian Community, who came to Yunnan to attend the 2024 China International Sister Cities Conference.
Wang Ning welcomed Yukio Hatoyama and his delegation and introduced the economic and social development of Yunnan and the exchanges between Yunnan and Japan. Wang Ning said that China and Japan are friendly neighbors separated by a strip of water. In the early 1980s, Kunming and Fujisawa became the first pair of international sister cities in Yunnan Province. Over the past 40 years, friendly exchanges and cooperation between Yunnan and Japan have become increasingly close. The results are fruitful. Yukio Hatoyama congratulated the International Sister Cities Conference on the success and thanked the Chinese government and Yunnan Province for their warm and thoughtful arrangements.
