On November 9, 2024, the 3rd Nepal Pokhara International Mountain Cross-Country Championship and the Pokhara-Kunming International Friendly City League were successfully held on the shore of Lake Pokhara Fewa, Nepal. Nearly 2,000 people from Nepal, India, the Philippines, the Netherlands, Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, Chongqing and Guangdong in China "run for common prosperity". The total length of the professional group of this event has increased from 38 kilometers in the previous session to 50 kilometers, and the event points (ITRA points 2 points) have been added, providing participants with greater motivation and rich competitive experience.

The event is a sports event in which Yunnan Province fully assists Pokhara, Nepal. It has been successfully held in Pokhara, Nepal for three consecutive years. Among them, the third competition was led by the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, and Director Yang Zhonghua of the Provincial Sports Bureau led a delegation to participate. He witnessed the unveiling of the "Spring City Friendship Park" and attended the "Yunnan Mountain Outdoor Sports Resources, Sports Culture and Project Exhibition" with the theme of "Meeting Mountains, Blind Dating of People". It has laid a solid foundation for promoting the construction of a multi-level cooperation platform for people-to-people communication with Nepal, and enhancing further development and deepening practical cooperation in the field of sports.

It has served the country's overall diplomacy and has unswervingly moved away along the "Belt and Road".Nepal is an important country for the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" and an important partner for China to expand its opening up and deepen exchanges and cooperation. The Nepal Pokhara International Mountain Cross-Country Race and the Pokhara-Kunming International Friendly City League are concrete actions to thoroughly implement Xi Jinping's diplomatic thoughts and implement the important consensus of General Secretary Xi Jinping's talks with the President of Nepal. They are pragmatic measures to actively serve the overall national diplomatic situation and go global along the "Belt and Road". Through the Nepal Pokhara International Mountain Cross-Country Race, we have witnessed a deep friendship across the Himalayas. Through participating in the competition, not only did the Chinese players gain a comprehensive understanding of Nepal's economy, society, culture, geography, ethnicity, sports, tourism, etc., but also contacted the local governments of Nepal, relevant associations and Nepal athletes, actively promoted and introduced the special advantages of Yunnan in the national joint construction of the "Belt and Road" initiative, allowing all sectors of Nepal to know and understand Yunnan.

Carrying out charity activities has enhanced traditional friendship.During the 2024 competition, the museum specially held a special exhibition on outdoor sports in Yunnan, setting up an independent exhibition board that can display for a long time, showing Chinese elements. The Provincial Sports Bureau handed over the donation of sports equipment worth RMB 400,000 (about 7.2 million Nepal Rupees) to the Nepal side and donated 200,000 Nigeria coins (11,100 yuan) to the museum. The Provincial Mountaineering Association donated the full amount of the event registration fee, and mobilized participants to raise funds from Pokhara's impoverished areas. The total donation reached 13,200 yuan, to fund three primary and secondary schools on the Pokhara track, enhancing the traditional friendship between China and Nepal.

This event allows the world to see Yunnan

Yunnan's sports and cultural exchanges with Nepal are included in the China-Nepal Declaration.The delegation of the Provincial Sports Bureau took advantage of participating in the event to conduct friendly exchanges and inspection visits in Pokhara, Lumbini and Kathmandu, Nepal, held talks with 8 Nepal political leaders, and carried out 11 official activities to reach a consensus on better strengthening exchanges with Nepal local governments and relevant departments, and promoting cultural exchanges between the two sides. In December 2024, Nepalese Prime Minister Oli paid an official visit to China. On December 3, China and Nepal issued a "Joint Statement", including "Pokhara International Mountain Cross-Country Race and China-Nepal Friendship Dragon Boat Race" and "the two sides encourage and support the sports departments and sports organizations of the two countries to strengthen contacts and carry out friendly exchanges." As the contents of the statement, this is the high recognition and evaluation of the two governments of this event.

Create an international brand event.In line with the quality of international professional events, the difficulty, length and group settings of the event (student group, experience group) will be upgraded, and team multi-season competitions will be carried out. Through three competitions, I applied for internationally recognized ITRA points (2 points), and continuously increased incentive bonuses with the support of the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, laying the foundation for the creation of an international event and was highly recognized and supported by the Nepal side. The successful holding of the Pokhara International Mountain Cross Country Race has attracted widespread media coverage, and domestic media such as Central CCTV-13, relevant overseas media, Internet celebrity runners and media hosts have promoted and reported in different ways, and the influence of the event has been greatly enhanced.

The areas for participating in cooperation and exchanges with Nepal are constantly expanding.Through the successful holding of three events, the Pokhara International Mountain Cross-Country Race has become one of the important sports exchange projects to promote the construction of Yunnan's radiation centers facing South Asia and Southeast Asia.
