On June 20, during the 9th China-South Asia Expo and the 29th China Kunming Import and Export Commodity Fair, the main event of the 2025 Yunnan Province International Friendship City Cooperation Week - the Friendly City Promotion Conference was held in Kunming. The event is themed "Speaking Friendship Together and Promoting Cooperation Together", aiming to further enhance people's friendship, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and promote mutual learning among civilizations.


It is understood that since Kunming City and Fujisawa City, Japan, established the first pair of internationally friendly cities in Yunnan Province in November 1981, as of now, Yunnan Province has established 116 international friendly cities with 37 countries on five continents. In addition to international friendly cities, Yunnan Province has established friendly exchanges and cooperation relations with South Chungcheon Province, Incheon Hiroshima City, Japan, and Iwate Prefecture.
This year marks the tenth year of establishing friendly and cooperative relations between Yunnan Province and Incheon Gwangju City, South Korea. "I came to Yunnan 20 years ago. Yunnan's natural scenery and national culture are impressive." said Huang Xiaozhen, deputy mayor of Incheon Gwangju City. Over the years, Yunnan Province and Incheon Gwangju City have maintained friendly exchanges and organized youth exchange activities many times. In October 2024, Incheon Gwangju City youth also came to Yunnan to participate in the "2024 International Friendship City Youth Exchange Activity Week" to experience "there is a kind of life called Yunnan".
In his speech, Cerrennadmeed, Governor of Houhangai Province of Mongolia, and Changan Sharula, Governor of West Sumatra Province of Indonesia, said that he would use the exchanges of friendly cities as a link to share development opportunities, deepen regional cooperation, promote trade, investment and cultural exchanges, promote complementary advantages and common prosperity, and effectively enhance the welfare of the people in friendly cities.

A signing ceremony was also held at the meeting. Yunnan Province and West Sumatra, Indonesia signed the "Letter of Intent to Establish a Friendly Provincial Relations between Yunnan Province and West Sumatra, Indonesia" on the spot. In addition, all parties have also signed a number of cooperation documents involving friendly urban settlement, medical care, agriculture, environmental protection, economic, trade and investment.
According to reports, this cooperation week adopts the "International Friendship City +" model, strengthens exchanges and mutual learning through "Invite In" and will promote the long-term and stable friendly partnership between all friendly cities to fully transform the development achievements that benefit the people.
