Young Student Delegation from Johns Hopkins University Visits Kunming

At the invitation of the China Association for International Exchange and Friendship, a delegation of 17 young students from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies in the United States visited Kunming from March 20 to 22, 2024.


On March 21, when Zhang Shijin, Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Provincial People's Government and President of the Provincial People's Friendship Association, met with the delegation, he used Yunnan's Guoqiao rice noodles as an analogy to express that Chinese culture is inclusive and diverse. He encouraged the American youth to gain a deeper and more authentic impression of China through their visit, thereby contributing to the promotion of Sino-US friendship. Wang Yu, Executive Vice President of the Provincial People's Friendship Association, attended the event.

During the visit to Kunming, the delegation held discussions and exchanges with the Provincial Department of Commerce, Yunnan University, Yunnan Energy Investment Group, and Yunnan Construction Investment Group. They visited the Kunming Flying Tiger Memorial Hall to revisit the deep friendship forged between China and the United States during World War II. They inspected the small fishing village of Jinning to understand the situation of rural revitalization in Yunnan Province. They surveyed the Kunming Central Station of China Railway Joint Group. They watched the large-scale, original ethnic minority cultural performance "Yunnan Image", experiencing the charm of Yunnan's ethnic minority culture.


The young students expressed that seeing is believing. During this visit, they learned about the development achievements of Yunnan in areas such as foreign relations, green development, ecological governance, traditional culture, and rural revitalization. They experienced the natural beauty, humanistic beauty, and developmental beauty of Yunnan, gaining a genuine understanding of China, especially Yunnan, and are willing to make positive efforts for the friendship between China and the United States.
