Transmit light and enhance friendship
In April last year, six ophthalmologists from the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University went to Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka, to perform free cataract rehabilitation surgery on 100 local patients within 5 days. "Due to the long sunshine and strong ultraviolet rays, Sri Lankans have relatively high chances of developing cataracts and other eye diseases." Doctor Zhong Hua said that as long as you have the right equipment and professional personnel, the operation can be completed in a few minutes, with a high success rate and immediate results.
In recent years, Yunnan Province has used small and beautiful "Xinlianyun Travel" projects to promote private diplomacy and serve the construction of radiation centers in South Asia and Southeast Asia. Since 2013, the Yunnan Provincial People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries has actively organized Yunnan Provincial Medical Team to carry out the "Bright Tour" activity in Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Sri Lanka and other countries, relieving the pain and lighting the light for thousands of cataract patients. The high-level expert team in Yunnan Province won high praise and recognition from all walks of life in Sri Lanka with their superb skills and successful operations, and promoted international exchanges and cooperation in medical professionals.
In the Doctor's Office of the Inpatient Department of Ophthalmology, the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University, Dr. Zhao Jianfeng, who has participated in the "Guangming Tour" medical assistance many times, is summarizing overseas diagnosis and treatment work, and his desk is full of archives. "In addition to postoperative follow-up visits, careful preparations should be made before the trip, including contact and coordination inspection of public welfare projects, material preparation and transportation, patient screening, treatment plan formulation, etc., to ensure that the "Bright Travel" achieves ideal results." Zhao Jianfeng said, "From medical equipment to small swab heads, syringes, medical clothing, etc., all must be carefully inspected and carefully checked. The entire pre-trip preparation will take nearly two months."
During the medical assistance period, due to the large number of patients, coupled with the hot weather and language disorders, the medical team worked very hard every day from morning to night. "Although the work is intensifying, we dare not slackew at all. Seeing the patient who had removed the gauze again, a smile appeared on his face, and shook hands and hugged us. Such efforts were worth it," said Zhao Jianfeng.
Indranand Abesaikara, president of the Sri Lanka Society, who is nearly 70 years old, said his wife is one of the cataract patients undergoing surgery. "I am very relieved and grateful to the Chinese doctors. My wife told me that the entire operation was not painful, and my vision has improved a lot now." He said that the "Light Tour" activity is of great significance, giving more people the opportunity to see the light again and get and live a normal work and life. “I am willing to serve as the Ambassador of the 'Lighting Tour' in the community to promote this charity event and enhance the friendship between Sri Lanka and the Chinese people.
