Chinese Ambassador to Maldives Wang Lixin said at the project handover ceremony that China and Maldives are a model of equality, mutual respect, mutual benefit and win-win between large and small countries in the world. The donation of solar street lights by Yunnan Province of China to Himafushi Island of Maldives is a new measure to implement the important consensus of the two heads of state on strengthening local cooperation and promoting sustainable development, and a new proof of the traditional friendship and close cooperation between the two countries. China is willing to work with Maldives to inject new impetus into the China-Maldives comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and promote the relationship between the two countries towards a brighter future.
Sharif, Minister of Local Governance of Maldives, and Hassan, Chairman of the Himafushi Island Committee, who attended the ceremony, thanked China for the donation and said that China is an important partner of Maldives. Yunnan Province's donation of street lights to Maldives reflects the profound friendship between Maldives and China and improves the lives of the Maldivian people. Maldives hopes to further strengthen cooperation with China to achieve national prosperity and improve people's livelihood. Local people expressed their gratitude for the selfless help of Yunnan Province, China, and said that the "putting on duty" of street lights not only helps to eliminate safety hazards of night traffic, but also improves infrastructure conditions by using green and environmentally friendly new energy.
"Heart-to-Heart Yunnan Tour" is a series of "small but beautiful" public welfare projects implemented by the Yunnan People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries in South Asia, Southeast Asia and the Indian Ocean Rim. From 2022 to 2023, four projects covering infrastructure, human settlements, and student aid and teaching assistance were implemented in the Maldives, benefiting the people of Male City, Himafushi Island, and Maafushi Island. In 2024, the "Heart-to-Heart Yunnan Tour" project will continue to be implemented in the Maldives, contributing Yunnan's strength to improving the well-being of the people of the two countries, promoting the building of a community of shared future between China and Maldives, and promoting people-to-people exchanges.
