In order to actively practice the concept of amicable, sincere, beneficial, and inclusive diplomacy with neighboring countries, to help the construction of the China-Laos community with a shared future go deeper and more solid, and to further strengthen the ties of people-to-people exchanges and practical cooperation between the border residents of China and Laos, the 2025 China-Laos Border Residents Grand Reunion series of activities, with the theme of "Drinking the Same River Water, Fate Closely Connected", was officially launched in Mengla County, Xishuangbanna State, on the evening of September 11th.

The event was guided by the Yunnan People's Association for Foreign Friendship and organized by the State Government of Xishuangbanna. The co-organizers were the State Government of Mengla, the Foreign Affairs Office of Xishuangbanna State, the State Federation of Trade Unions, the Communist Youth League of Xishuangbanna State, and the State Red Cross Society. The main leaders of the Xishuangbanna State Committee, the Vice Governor Sun Lu, the Vice Chairman of the Xishuangbanna State People's Political Consultative Conference Yuan Songqing, the main leaders of the Mengla County Party Committee, the government, the people's Congress, and the people's political consultative conference attended the event. The Yunnan People's Association for Foreign Friendship and the Yunnan Branch of the Chinese Red Cross Society sent representatives to participate in the event.
The director of the Lao Consulate General in Kunming, Zoua Lueyao, the director of the Udomsai Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, Aivone Phaiboon, the secretary of the South Nong District Committee of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, Ban Yala, the deputy chairman of the Vientiane City Federation of Trade Unions, Phouavong Vansavang, and representatives from 10 friendly counties (cities), including Luang Prabang City, Mengne District, and Nong District, as well as relevant provincial and municipal governments, trade unions, chambers of commerce, and youth representatives from the Lao People's Democratic Republic, participated in the event.

Zhang Shiyin, Secretary of the Mengla County Party Committee, stated in his speech that, with the opportunity of the series of activities of the Great Reunion of the Chinese and Lao Border People, we will, together with the Lao side, implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two parties and two countries, continuously promote the comprehensive development of the China-Laos Railway, give full play to the radiation and driving effect of the "Golden Passage", accelerate the upgrading of key projects such as the China Mengman Port and the Lao Banhkhong Port, continue to expand cooperation in the fields of labor, medical care, education, tourism, and ecological environment protection, share and exchange the experience of the comprehensive revitalization and development of rural areas, and jointly combat cross-border illegal crimes, so as to make greater contributions to the construction of the China-Laos community of destiny.


During the evening, programs such as the song and dance performances "Flying Songs of the Frontier", "Drinking from the Same River", and "Let Me Understand Your Language", as well as Lao dance performances such as "The Spinning Girl" and "Blessing", which showcase the unique characteristics of Chinese and Lao culture, were performed in turn. Everyone gathered together to jointly play the song of friendship.

The series of activities of the 2025 China-Laos People's Big Reunion will last until September 14th, focusing on China-Laos cross-border cooperation and exchanges. The activities cover the China-Laos Railway Corridor Development Seminar, the China-Laos Chamber of Commerce Economic Seminar, the "China-Laos Youth Talk" Roundtable Meeting, the China-Laos Staff Technical Skills Exchange Competition, the "Beautiful Rainforest" Art Field Trip, badminton, football invitation matches, and the China-Laos border people's "Lao Geng" fair reunion and other activities, striving to build a platform.Open platforms along the border to deepen friendly exchanges and pragmatic cooperation between the border areas of China and Laos.
