US sister city youth "Experience Yunnan" event held in the US
Recently, under the guidance of the Education Office of the Chinese Embassy in the United States, the "Experience Yunnan" youth exchange activity was held in the United States, sponsored by the Yunnan People's Association for Foreign Friendship and organized by the Yunnan Chamber of Commerce in the United States (New York). On March 27, 24 teachers and students from Tower Mountain School in Delaware visited the Chinese Embassy in the United States and participated in the "Experience Yunnan" theme exchange activity, getting close to China and Yunnan and deepening their understanding and knowledge of Yunnan.
Walking into the Embassy: Perceiving China in the Visit
The activities opened at the Chinese Embassy. By visiting the embassy, teachers and students learned about the concept of Chinese education and the people-to-people exchanges between China and the United States. They had interactive communication around Chinese culture, educational development and social life, creating a relaxed and warm atmosphere. The colorful ethnic culture, natural environment and characteristic industries of Yunnan have entered the vision of American teenagers.
Ink and brush convey affection: Experience the oriental charm in calligraphy
During the cultural experience session, students picked up brushes and dipped them in ink, trying to write Chinese characters such as "Yunnan" and "friendship," and practicing writing their Chinese names. From the initial awkwardness to gradually becoming focused and engaged, everyone felt the charm and rhythm of traditional Chinese culture in the hands-on experience. The students said that the process of writing stroke by stroke allowed them to appreciate the unique beauty that is different from alphabetic writing.
Taste memory: remember Yunnan in the taste.
The taste experience also became a major highlight of the event. The crispy and spicy Yunnan Angel Potato Chips and the "Dian Er Wa" potato chips quickly won the hearts of the students. Yunnan Baoshan coffee was also very popular. Some students expressed their hope to bring this taste from Yunnan home to share with their families. Through the taste experience, Yunnan is no longer just a distant geographical concept, but a real feeling that can be tasted and remembered.
Classroom preparation: From cognition to experience
As a prelude to the embassy activities, the activity team has been promoting the Chinese curriculum of Delaware's Tower Mountain School to revolve around "Experiencing Yunnan", systematically introducing the ethnic diversity of Yunnan, the characteristic agriculture of plateaus, and the economic and trade cooperation between Yunnan and the United States. Through the organic connection of "classroom learning + embassy experience", the perception of Yunnan among Delaware teenagers is further enhanced.
Many students expressed their hope to visit Yunnan, a friendly city, in person in the future, to gain a deeper understanding of this diverse and vibrant land after the event.
