China Yunnan Friendship Delegation Visits West Virginia Chinese Residential Project and Donates Tiles

On May 14th, US Eastern Time, the China Yunnan Friendship Delegation came to The China Folk House Retreat in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia (West Virginia). This traditional Yunnan house, which was relocated from the banks of the Lancang River in Yunnan Province to the United States, donated a batch of traditional Yunnan tile materials.
It is understood that this Chinese dwelling restoration project is led by John Flower, director of the Chinese Studies Program at Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C., and his wife, Pamela Leonard. ) co-founded.In 2017, when Mr. Flower visited Cizhong Village, Deqin County, Yunnan Province, he accidentally discovered a dwelling that combines Han, Tibetan and Naxi elements.After hearing that the original owner had to demolish the house because of the local water conservancy construction, Mr. Flower came up with the idea of relocating the building to the United States. He hoped that through this residence, more American students could learn about the unique history and culture of Yunnan. Diverse national cultures.After several years of hard work, this Yunnan residence was completely dismantled and transported to the banks of the Shenandoah River in West Virginia, USA, to be rebuilt as it was.
In 2022, Qin Gang, the then Chinese ambassador to the United States, came to China for a field inspection of the residential reconstruction project. After learning that the project could not be fully restored due to the lack of roof tiles, Ambassador Qin Gang immediately contacted Yunnan Province, China, and promoted Yunnan to Chinese residential buildings. The restoration project donated this batch of much-needed traditional building materials to add bricks and tiles to this "House of Friendship between China and the United States".
In addition, "In the Wild: Research Exhibition on Yunnan Architectural Traditions" co-sponsored by Kunming Museum of Contemporary Art, School of Architecture and Urban Planning, Kunming University of Science and Technology, and China Folk House Retreat in West Virginia, USA was held at Asian Fusion Gallery in Washington DC, USA.The exhibition, which is free and open to the public, will run from May 13 to 22, with a special screening of the film on May 19.
