On April 1, 2012, Yunnan Province and the Rio Grande Region of Chile officially established a sister-provincial relationship, achieving a breakthrough in the provincial-level sister-city relationship between Yunnan Province and a South American country.Since the establishment of the partnership, the two sides have carried out a variety of pragmatic exchanges and cooperation in high-level exchanges, economy and trade, culture, forestry and other fields.。
Time flies by 11 years, let us start from the mountains in the south of Caiyun to the banks of the Valdivia River in the Great River District, and review together the promises that span thousands of miles of mountains and rivers.

Chile's Great River Region——
The Rio Grande Region of Chile is located in south-central Chile and is one of the 15 first-level administrative regions in Chile. Its capital is the city of Valdivia.The River Region is famous for its numerous rivers, lakes, primeval forests and diverse indigenous traditions, historic buildings and art culture. The magnificent natural scenery of the Andes has created a foundation for the development of tourism in the region.The Dahe District is rich in forestry resources, and its main industries are forestry, agriculture, tourism, and cultural industries.

Ballet meets country music
Accompanied by the passionate and unrestrained national music of Chile, a strong wind from South America ignited the audience!In September 2012, the National Ballet of the Southern University of Chile from the Dahe District traveled thousands of miles to Yunnan Province to make its debut at the "World Rural Sounds - 2012 Jinghong City's First International Country Music Festival" in Jinghong City, Xishuangbanna Prefecture. Participated in the opening ceremony of the "First Jingdong International Wuliangshan Carnival" and the "Wuliangshan International Rural Forest Concert" held in Pu'er Jingdong Yi Autonomous County.
Artists from the Dahe District came from afar, dressed in various traditional costumes, accompanied by guitars and tambourines, and showed off their resonant singing voices. The dancers sometimes walked lyrically, sometimes jumped lightly, with charming smiles, cheerful dances, and elegance. The chorus singing soared in the relaxed and free dance steps, bringing the Chilean ethnic customs and indigenous culture from the Andes Mountains and the Valdivia River to the border towns of Yunnan for the first time. Every performance was packed with seats and thunderous applause.

Professor Julio Mariangel, director of the National Ballet of the University of the South of Chile, said excitedly: "After a 48-hour flight, we finally arrived in the beautiful Yunnan, China. This stage performance gives us the opportunity to introduce the Dahe District to Yunnan Province As well as folk dances in northern Chile, Chiloe Island, Vasco City, Easter Island and other places, we were very touched by the large number of spectators and the high enthusiasm."
The tambourines in the Dahe District are shaking, and the tambourines of the Dai people in Yunnan are playing. When the Chilean National Ballet meets Yunnan country music, a window for cultural blending, mutual learning of civilizations, and people-to-people connections opens, opening a window for the people of Yunnan to understand Chile, A window into the River District.

From the artistic stage to the economic, trade and educational platform, sister city cooperation has created unlimited possibilities for the two provinces and regions to develop and prosper together.In April 2012, Yunnan Province and Dahe District signed an agreement to establish sister provinces and regions, kicking off exchanges and cooperation between the two places.
On October 28, the Yunnan Province-Chile River District Investment Cooperation Promotion Conference was held in Kunming. 12 companies from the forestry, agriculture, dairy and other fields of the two provinces gathered together to explore business opportunities and seek common development.

The long distance cannot hinder the pace of strengthening cooperation between the two places.During the epidemic, Yunnan Province and Dahe District conveyed their friendship through letters, expressing their friendship of sharing weal and woe and helping each other through thick and thin.In June 2023, the Yunnan Provincial Foreign Affairs Education and Economic and Trade Delegation visited Dahe District and met cordially with Luis Cuvertino Gomez, Chairman of Dahe District, to discuss in-depth exchanges on strengthening mutual visits, educational cooperation, economic and trade exchanges between sister cities.Kunming University of Science and Technology has reached a consensus on exchanges and cooperation with the University of the South of Chile, the University of San Sebastian, the University of Santo Tomas, and the Dahe District Technical Training Center. Representatives from Yunnan Agricultural Reclamation Group and Yuntianhua Group have reached a consensus with APICOOP Honey Company and COLUN Dairy Products. The company and KUNSTMANN Beer Company promoted their respective advantages. Government departments, universities, and enterprises from both sides discussed development and friendship, and jointly opened a chapter of cooperation to build new consensus and promote new development after the epidemic.

In March, Arnold Toledo, Counselor of the Dahe District Government, led a delegation from the Dahe District of Chile to visit Yunnan and signed a partnership agreement with Yunnan Province. The group company and Yunnan Metallurgical Group Corporation held discussions and exchanges.

In November, the Yunnan Provincial Economic and Trade Delegation visited the Dahe District of Chile to discuss cooperation with the Dahe District in areas such as deep-water ports, highways, power station construction, international airports, clean energy, and tourism development.
